The internet set itself ablaze earlier this summer when the trailer for Netflix's dark comedy Insatiable arrived, and then it whipped itself into a frenzy when the series finally dropped last month. The Debby Ryan pageant comedy about an overweight girl who loses 70 pounds after a homeless man punches her in the face and forces her on a liquid diet drew a lot of criticism for its humor around weight loss and body positivity. Naturally, it will now return for Season 2, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The show was almost universally panned by critics, and interviews with showrunner Lauren Gussis did little to calm the masses in her interview with THR after the show debuted. While the critic score on Metacritic was a low 23, meaning generally unfavorable reviews, viewers gave it a solid 7.2 out of 10. This might be one of those times where critics and the social justice crowd were out of touch with what the general population was willing to tolerate with regards to humor. It's also possible that so many body positivity activists hate-watched the show that they gave Netflix the numbers to justify a second season. Of course, we have no way of knowing if it's the latter -- Netflix would never release streaming numbers, meaning there's no way to tell how much of the viewership was made of actual fans or angry bloggers looking for points to make.

The streaming service has gotten pickier about what it spends its money on though; Cindy Holland, Netflix's VP of original series, explained at the Television Critics Association summer press tour that critical darling Everything Sucks! didn't get renewed because a lot of people started the series but didn't finish it. People clearly finished Insatiable.

Insatiable was originally developed for The CW but was passed over in last year's crowded pilot season before being rescued and set at Netflix. Season 2 will arrive in 2019.
