By Megan Vick,

With the news that Game of Thrones will kick off its final season in April, it became a little more real that TV's most epic show is coming to an end. How will you fill the void once it is off the air? Hulu might have the answer! The streaming network is setting up two series based on the Wild Cards novels which Thrones author George R.R. Martin edits, according to Variety.

Unlike Thrones, Wild Cards is set in the present in a world where a deadly virus was unleashed over Manhattan in 1946. Ninety-percent of the people infected died and the survivors have passed down a latent version of the virus in their DNA, which can be triggered by a traumatic event. At that point, the carrier either dies, becomes deformed or develops god-like powers. The deformed are oppressed and exploited by those with powers, and after years of being kept down, they begin fighting for the right to determine their own future.

Both new series, which would be executive produced by Martin, are set in the Wild Card universe, but it's unclear how closely they'll be related.

The Wild Card series began in 1987 and has had over two dozen books published in the franchise from over 40 contributing authors. Martin, in the meantime, remains busy as an executive producer on Syfy's Nightflyers, based on his novella of the same name. He's also executive producing the five potential Game of Thrones spin-offs being developed at HBO, including the tentatively titled The Long Night, which just cast Naomi Watts in a main role.
