The disAbility Resource Center of the Rappahannock Area, Inc. (dRC) is celebrating its 26th year of service to the community, supporting people with disabilities in the greater Fredericksburg area. To celebrate, the dRC is hosting an “A Night Under the Big Top” gala on October 12, 2019, in the ballroom of the Fredericksburg Expo and Conference Center in Fredericksburg, Virginia. We will have an exquisite dinner with complimentary wine, ballroom dancing with live music from the Fredericksburg Big Band, a silent and live auction (with help from Dudley’s Auction Company), and we’ll raise funds for our non-profit organization. Funds raised will help the dRC support and serve people with disabilities and their families in their community.
The dRC’s mission is to enable people of all disabilities, of all ages, to live as independently as possible. We do that in a variety of ways including independent living skills training, peer mentoring, advocacy, facilitating transition from institutional care to the community and from school to adult life, and by providing information to individuals, their families, and the community on different services and supports.
Independent living does not mean that someone must do everything for themselves. Some people need the assistance of aides, technology, therapies, and/or natural supports (families, friends, neighbors, etc.). But no matter the supports, people with disabilities have a choice regarding decisions about their lives and they should have the independence to make those decisions.
Disability likely affects someone you know, whether it’s a family member, friend, neighbor or coworker. With the progression of age, we likely will all experience some type of disability. Many people with disabilities need information, resources and support to live at home with family and friends, and many newly disabled people have a difficult time adjusting to living life differently. The dRC, whose staff includes people with disabilities and their family members, is ready to help. Whether it’s young parents who have a newborn with a disability, a young adult with cerebral palsy and needs independent living skills help, a veteran who comes in for a free assistive listening device, or a senior who needs durable medical equipment, staff can help with a wide array of services.
You or your organization can support the work of the disAbility Resource Center through sponsoring our event by monetary donation, providing a tax-deductible donated item for both or one of our auctions, and/or attending the event. Our tax ID # is 54-1687677. Your help makes a big difference to our organization, and the people we serve.
The dRC, as a Center for Independent Living, works to enable people of all disabilities of all ages to reach their greatest potential of independent living. We believe people with disabilities should have a voice and a choice in their life and should be included as active members of their community. We would appreciate your support of the dRC and its work through a sponsorship of our gala. With your financial help, we can continue to inform, guide, and help people with disabilities and their families and to help the community realize the ABILITIES of individuals with disabilities for many years to come. Sponsorship levels of this special event include the following:
Additional tables of eight can be purchased and a table placard with company’s name and logo will be placed at the table. Please contact Kim Lett, klett@cildrc.org, for these and any other additional tickets.
Our consumers would benefit from your sponsorship as all proceeds will be used to support the dRC’s programs and services.
