Nov. 25, 2019 / PRZen / KEY WEST, Fla. -- The highly anticipated 29th Annual Kelly McGillis Classic International Women's and Girls' Flag Football Championship is approaching rapidly and will be held Tuesday January 21st through Monday January 27th in Key West Florida.  Teams are forming, so if you, or a team have interest in participating please reach out to Diane at iwffa@iwffa.com.

Founded by Diane Beruldsen in 1995, the IWFFA (formally the NWFFA) acts as an umbrella organization for teams across the globe.  Representatives of the IWFFA have traveled to Central America, Asia, Europe, The Middle East, and Cuba to teach women the game, speak on leadership, and ultimately work to make a difference in the communities where women have sometimes been silenced.

Although the games will be played tournament style January 23rd-26th, the festivities start with a team/participant parade and continue for an entire week.  Throughout the week, participants will enjoy amazing Key West weather, attend nightly gatherings, and hear dynamic women speakers.  "We are thrilled to announce that, Jamie Saffa, the founder of the Jimmy Foundation Sports Academy for Girls in Sierra Leone, West Africa, will be one of our guest speakers," stated Diane.

Recently, the IWFFA partnered with The Jimmy Foundation Sports Academy for Girls and is planning to travel there in April to conduct a one-month intensive flag football clinic.  They will focus on the rules of the game, coaching, and how to officiate properly.    This life changing non-profit organization is breaking through barriers by utilizing sports to Protect, Educate and Empower women who would otherwise be ignored.

Countries that will be represented at this year's tournament include the United States, Canada, Pakistan, India, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Puerto Rico.

Teams, as well as individuals, are encouraged to sign up now as the deadline to register is December 15, 2019.  Everyone is accepted to play no matter your skill level or knowledge of the game. Again, this event is more about comradery than the actual winning or losing of games.

If you are interested in learning more or to sign up for the event, please email Diane at iwffa@iwffa.com.
