Tiny Nicaraguan Startup Spotlighted by Prominent Business Website

Spanish learning program is "Small Business Trends" weekly spotlight company

MATAGALPA, NICARAGUA, December 03, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Hablamos Today, a Spanish practice program designed to supplement traditional learning methods such as apps and teachers, was chosen as this week's "Small Business Spotlight" on www.SmallBizTrends.com.

"We are honored that they chose us to be spotlighted this week," said Cheryl Otero, one of the company's Nicaraguan founders. "It's nice to be recognized for bringing something new to the Spanish learning industry."

Hablamos Today carved out an extremely specific niche within the Spanish learning industry, and has no known competitors. Spanish learners pay a few bucks to get a live person via video chat for structured conversation practice sessions. The Nicaraguan on the other end is not a Spanish teacher, but is trained to lead the conversation. The sessions include Spanish activities and is for all levels of Spanish, even beginners. The business model works because of cost-of-living differences between Nicaragua and the U.S./Canada. The learner is getting a dedicated Spanish helper for what seems like very little money.

Nicaragua is in the midst of a political/economic crisis, which adds another interesting dimension to the story. Most businesses there are suffering. However, Hablamos Today's income comes from customers in the U.S./Canada, and is entirely insulated from the crisis.

Hablamos Today (https://www.hablamostoday.com) is a practice website for Spanish learners that offers 1&1 guided conversation practice with native Spanish speakers in Nicaragua, and also offers free daily "news in slow Spanish" podcasts. The conversation partners provide the "human" component of language learners need. It is a supplement to language learning apps, and for people studying Spanish in College who don't have local Spanish speakers to practice with. It is located in Nicaragua, and conducts videochat sessions with customers in the U.S. and Canada.
